What is DPM?
DPM stands for Direct Part Marking and is a term for techniques allowing an object or part of an object to be marked or engraved with information and (bar)codes.
DPM barcodes are codes that are directly engraved or marked onto the part. These contain vital information about parts or objects needed for operations. Scanning the codes reveals or logs information that can be used elsewhere in the process. A few examples are repairs and manufacturing.
There are several methods to apply the technique depending on the desired result, such as laser engraving, dot peen, and electrolytic chemical etching. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, depending on the material used for engraving and the desired result.
