Achieve oustanding traceability with Direct Part Marking

What is DPM?

DPM stands for Direct Part Marking and is a term for techniques allowing an object or part of an object to be marked or engraved with information and (bar)codes.

DPM barcodes are codes that are directly engraved or marked onto the part. These contain vital information about parts or objects needed for operations. Scanning the codes reveals or logs information that can be used elsewhere in the process. A few examples are repairs and manufacturing.

There are several methods to apply the technique depending on the desired result, such as laser engraving, dot peen, and electrolytic chemical etching. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages, depending on the material used for engraving and the desired result.

DPM Key Industries

A lot depends on the type of industry. For example, where hygienic regulations are strict in healthcare, DPM codes must withstand extensive or chemical cleaning cycles. You’ll find that DPM technology is commonly used in industrial applications and the automotive industry, but you’ll also see it used in consumer electronics and even in jewelry.

DPM Barcode Readers

DPM barcodes are read using scanners equipped with the technology to decode these codes quickly.
